Ever drive past a small pond in front of a office building or mall and wonder whats in it? Or even a golf course? The mall near my house has two ponds, one has 3 water spouts in it. I always see cranes fishing in them. My nieghbor told me there was always a fence around them when he was growing up. One day they took the fences down and he fished it and caught some big bass. He never heard of anyone fishing in them. Theres other around town that I want to investigate.

Their was an old pond at my High School when I was growing up. I asked a teacher if we were allowed to fish it. He said yeah but no one does and didn't think their were any fish in it. So one day I gave it a try and land 4 bass over 5 lbs. I also lost a bigger one and found a dead on that weighed 7 lbs.

There have been a couple of ponds like that for me. One behind a strip mall in the town I grew up in...never caught anything big out of it but there were sunfish and some bass there. Another one I had we used to call the muck pond, it was a small pond out in the middle of the woods, more a puddle than a pond but one day I did pull out a 24-25 inch large mouth, I couldn't believe it.

I found a third pond on a less busy side of the mall. So I pulled over to take a look. The sun clare made it a little tuff, but I did see some silver bellies flash a few times. I will be back.

I used this site and came to the conclusion that most of the ponds around here are man made. The oldest map for VB is 1963 and the entire area is farm. Use it its fun, but doesnt cover all areas. I like to use it to find old speedways, too.

It was in the 60's over the weekend, so I tried this hole. I checked it out a month or so ago and saw signs of life. Maybe only gambusia. This time I saw nothing and caught nothing. Also, I found out that this pond isn't too old.

I would say its an acre or so. These things are everywhere. I guess when they need dirt they dig one. I new down here, so I don't know. Petty clear, lots of pine needles from the trees and sandy shore. I have seen sunfish in the one a block away from this. I'll keep trying.

While at one of the local pet stores. I heard people bring in blue spotted sunfish for ID'ing. Its cool to know their in the area. I also found out that theres a snakehead population. Thats not cool. This pic is actually an odd place. Fisrt its one of the places that supposed to have snakeheads and second its formally a dump. Its now a huge grassy hill with 2 lakes and playgrounds. Your not supposed to eat the fish from the lake.
